मिट्टी पर अधिक दबाव पड़ने से मिट्टी ठोस अवस्था से द्रव अवस्था में बदल जाती हैं। इसे मिट्टी का द्रवीकरण कहते हैं । इसके परिणामस्वरूप भवन झुक सकता है अथवा उसमें दरारें पड़ सकती हैं। भवन धराशाही भी हो सकता है।
